Eric Gordon Makes His Mark

The New Orleans Hornets face the Boston Celtics tonight in their home opener at the New Orleans Arena. Eric Gordon (one of the players acquired in the Chris Paul trade) made his mark against the the Phoenix Suns in the season opener and hopefully will do the same tonight as the Hornets try to establish their new identity. Gordon, a fourth year guard, made the winning 20 foot jumper shot with 4.2 seconds remaining in the game and finished with a team high 20 points. In his debut with the Hornets the 6-foot-3, 215 shooting guard, had four rebounds, a steal, a block, and three assists in 39 minutes.   " Whatever the situation, I always try to make the best situation for it," Gordon said. " I'm still trying to fit in and figure things out throughout the offense, but I can put the ball on the floor and create for others." Hopefully Gordon will do the same in tonight's game against the Celtics and the Hornets will be able to move beyond the Chris Paul era.

Looking Hopefull

After a slow start in the New Orleans Arena, the Hornets made a come back to take the lead and the game in their preseason match up against the Memphis Grizzlies. After starting the game 12 of 15 they finished 31-82 for a 37.8 shooting percentage. What looked to be a lackadaisical start for the Hornets ended up being a decent finish. The new guys didn't look so bad either. Eric Gordon scored 17 points and Chris Kaman added 18 and both played well on defense. There was a little more effort in the last three-quarters of this preseason game than most people are used to seeing in a typical preseason game. Hopefully this will be the beginning to an energetic Hornets season.

Hornets Look to the Future

What looked to be questionable has actually turned out to be favorable for the New Orleans Hornets. Prolonging the trade of all-star point guard Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Clippers looks to be a positive move for the future of the New Orleans Hornets. In return for the trade the Hornets received shooting guard Eric Gordon, center Chris Kaman, forward Al-Farouq Aminu and a 2012 unconditional first-round draft pick. This will give the Hornets building blocks for the long term because of getting young players as opposed to the older players offered in the L.A. Laker trade. Although the new Hornet players aren't super stars like Chris Paul the trade has given the Hornets something to work with and has allowed the team to focus on the upcoming season.
